MariBell Transmission Project

Transmission line in Minnesota and Wisconsin that will help support regional grid reliability.

A sunset over expansive Minnesota farmland.

Project Overview

The proposed MariBell Transmission Project entails a new approximately 139-mile, 765 kilovolt (kV)/161 kV double circuit transmission line that would span portions of Olmsted, Mower, Fillmore, and Houston counties in Minnesota as well as Vernon and Crawford counties in Wisconsin.

This project is part of a larger effort by the region’s electric grid operator to maintain a reliable, resilient and flexible electricity grid. These infrastructure enhancements will support economic growth, benefiting residents in the Upper Midwest.

The project is being jointly developed by Dairyland Power Cooperative and GridLiance Heartland LLC. Across Minnesota and Wisconsin, Dairyland Power Cooperative, through its distribution cooperatives and municipal utilities, provides power to residents in this area. GridLiance Heartland and its affiliated companies have over 2,900 miles of transmission lines in development and operations across North America.

Following the regulatory review process and thorough stakeholder and community engagement, the project is expected to be in service in 2034. Dairyland Power Cooperative and GridLiance Heartland understand that an ongoing community dialogue will be instrumental to the project’s success and values public input to support decision-making on the project.
