Illinois to Kentucky
GridLiance is conducting a series of transmission rebuild projects to address aging infrastructure by replacing structures and conductor of its Ohio River Crossing transmission assets.
Six transmission lines, ranging in length between 7 and 9 miles long and more than 60 years old, cross the Ohio River and connect regional transmission facilities in Illinois and Kentucky. The age and condition of the transmission lines threaten their functionality and impact grid reliability, requiring replacement over the next four years.
The first transmission line, which extends from GridLiance’s Joppa Substation in Illinois to Tennessee Valley Authority’s Shawnee substation in Kentucky, will be replaced and completed by December 2021.
